The Walk
1. When is Let's Take A Walk 2010?
Let's Take A Walk 2010 will be held on 18-19 December 2010.
2. How long is the walk?
Let's Take A Walk comprises three walks. The ExtremeWalk is approximately 100km. Participants must complete the course within 33 hours of the start time. The Power Walk is approximately 50km. Participants must complete the course within 15 hours of the start time. The JalanWalk is approximately 10km.
3. Do I take part as an individual or as part of a team?
The 50km PowerWalk and 100km ExtremeWalk are team events. Each team must have at least 3 participants, up to a maximum of 6 members at the start of the walk. All participants must walk together in their groups. 10km JalanWalk is an individual event.
4. If I cannot form a team for the long walks, can I walk alone?
No, for safety reasons, participants for the long walks must participate and walk in teams of 3. This is so that the team members can look out and take care of one another during the course of the event.
5. My team is made up of 3 persons, what happens if one of my team mates retired during the event?
For safety reasons, 2 of you will be attached or paired by walk marshals and organiser with another team before continuing with the walk.
6. What are the start and end times of Let's Take A Walk?
The tentative starting times are:19 December 0830hr for the JalanWalk, 18 December 2030hr for the PowerWalk and 18 December 0730hr for the Extreme Walk. Details will be updated via email at a later date. All walks should end by 19 December 1800hr.
7. What happens if we cannot complete the route in the specified times?
If the teams can average 3km per hour for the 100km walk, the course can be completed within 33 hours. This is certainly achievable if your team keeps a consistent pace. To ensure the teams are not too slow, the walk marshals will monitor all teams' progress at the checkpoints. Each team must reach a checkpoint at a certain time otherwise they may not complete the course in time. Should this occur, the walk marshals may ask the team to stop the walk or agree on an appropriate plan. The walk marshal's decision is final, so put on your shoes and start training now!
8. Who can participate the Let's Take A Walk?
We welcome anyone and everyone. The more participants and pledge donations, the more funds we can raise for our beneficiaries. The event is open to anyone who is gamed to take up this meaningful challenge. We do however, required parental consent for participants below 21 years of age as of 1 December 2010. The consent form may be downloaded and send in with the payment cheque. In addition, for 10km JalanWalk, participants below 12 must be accompanied by an adult throughout the walk.
