About Us > The Committee

Let's Take A Walk 2010 may be a short weekend event but it takes months of research, planning and co-ordination work to ensure the smooth running of the event. Let's Take A Walk 2010 is organised by a small group of Singaporean working professionals. Sharing the conviction to raise funds for the community, we have pooled our resources and expertise together to orchestrate Let's Take A Walk 2010.

Yousi, Project Director
Yousi works as an field sales engineer in an engineering company. He has organized numerous activities and events for different interest groups. This is his third consecutive year organising Let's Take A Walk.Yousi was the chairman for Let's Take A Walk 2009. He hopes to give back to society and inspire others to follow likewise. During his leisure time, Yousi enjoys having a relaxing swim at the pool, giving his body a good work-out through running and stimulating his mind with books.

“I believe that there are many Singaporeans out there who want to reach out to the less fortunate in our community. Be it signing up in the walks, supporting your friends who are walking, volunteering as event helpers or giving donations, your actions will make a difference.”

Siming, Deputy Project Director

Chun Chun, Registration
Chun Chun is a freelance translator, and this gives her the freedom and flexibility to engage in volunteering activities that she is passionate about.

She first heard about Let's Take A Walk after her involvement in Operation Vannakam 2010 orgnanised by Raleigh Society. She forged some new friendships during the expedition and decided to volunteer for the next upcoming event, Let's Take A Walk 2010. The organisation of this large scale endurance walk event is intensive and will provide many hands-on opportunities to plan and bring the event to fruition. Chun Chun believes her involvement will serve as a good learning journey where she can pick up skills in operations, publicity, marketing, admin & finance.
Chun Chun hopes to make philanthropy a lifelong vocation. She has a keen interest in childhood education and has been an active volunteer for various causes, from ad-hoc volunteering at children's homes, to visits to elderly-care centres and asylums.
No man is an island. To Chun Chun, a meaningful life is to give with one's heart, to appreciate differences, and to embrace the community.

Her personal message to potential walkers, "Each step taken, and every second spent, brings you closer to self-fulfilment. Enjoy the process

“I choose to dedicate part of my time to this year's Let's Take A Walk after hearing wonderful reviews from 2009's participants. Besides making new friends, my involvement will also enrich my personal experience and strengthen my character. It is heart-warming to be able to work with like-minded individuals to achieve a charitable goal. It will be a commendable feat to establish LTAW as an annual endurance-walking event. With effective publicity and commitment from all parties involved, LTAW can even carve its niche on the international sporting cum philanthropic platform.”

Ling Lee, Advisor

Chiew Boon, Route Planner
Chiew Boon is a chemical engineer by training. He currently works in the petrol-chemical industry and specialises in modeling refinery processes in a not-so-far island off Singapore. A community work veteran yet self-proclaimed introvert, Chiew Boon is a firm believer of youth development through adventure learning. He has been actively involved in numerous Raleigh Society's initiatives including Rakan Raleigh (2007), Let's Take A Walk (2008), Vannakam Operation (2009) amongst others. Despite his hectic work schedule and volunteer commitments, he pampers himself by travelling and immersing himself in the diverse cultures of foreign lands.

“There are more to life than just having a flashy car, a luxurious apartment and a cushy job. Taking a less travelled path doesn't mean you are not successful. To me, the most important thing in life is to enjoy the journey through a variety of life experiences, giving back to the community and making a difference in others' lives in the process.”

Joel Sik, Training
Joel is a third-year chemical engineering student in NTU. An avid marathon runner, he enjoys outdoor activities such as trekking and fishing.

To Joel, being part of the organising committee of Let's Take A Walk is akin to taking a walk in the community and pushing forth what he loves most - an active and healthy sporty lifestyle. He has always thought that walking isnt much of an exercise. The idea of an endurance walk is refreshing to him and he believes that it is something that an average human of almost any age can achieve. He likes the concept of a charity endurance walk event and thinks it would be fun though he admits that the thought of 100km sound daunting. Through his active participation in this charity sports event, he hopes to learn from his firsst-time experience as a volunteer and contribute back to community.

“Life isnt a race to finish but a walk to appreciate. Running the race of life, have you ever notice our surroundings and appreciate the 'lillies and butterflies' around you? Let's take a walk together and appreciate the 'lilies and butterfiles' in this beautiful garden city we call home.”

Kian Beng, Volunteer and Training
Kian Beng is currently pursuing his chemical engineering degree in NTU. Beyond school work, he's an active sportsman who enjoys taking part in marathons, outdoor activities such as trekking and camping. He sees his involvement in the organising committee of Let's Take A Walk 2010 as a good opportunity to better understand the behind-the-scenes preparatory work of a charity sports event. To Kian Beng, this commitment is as a refreshing learning experience from his usual involvement as a walking participant and a good way to contribute back to the society, in particular, to the youth this year. Kian Beng believes that embarking on a 100km walk is a great challenge for everyone regardless of age. He likes the fact that Let's Take A Walk 2010 is an endurance walk that unites everyone through sports and is somewhat different from the many biathlons and triathlons out there.

“Life has always been a marathon. Why not slow down the pace a little and take a walk with fellow like-minded people and share a memorable walk experience ? Who knows, you may find your ideal travel or walking mate in the process.”

Dorothy, Publicity
Dorothy's first brush with Raleigh Society was when she helped out in a youth mentorship programme, Rakan Raleigh in 2007. In 2008, Dorothy was part of the organising committee for Let's Take A Walk 2008 and spearheaded the website, publicity and media matters. Today, Dorothy works in the Singapore maritime industry as the Corporate Communications Manager of Singapore Maritime Foundation. This is the third time that she is taking part in Raleigh Society's activities.

“Doing community work drives me and makes me happy. I hope that participants and their friends will pledge donations and be part of this meaningful walk, Let's Take A Walk. Walking 100 km may seem daunting but you never know unless you've tried. This is our personal challenge to you. Challenge yourself, do it for a good cause. Rally your friends and walk with us.”

Wai Leng (Website)
Wai Leng's first volunteer experience with Raleigh Society was for the Rakan Raleigh initiative in 2005, a mentorship programme which sought to instill confidence and impart life skills to youth from the Jamiyah Home through a series of outdoor activities. In the Let's Take A Walk 2008 event, Wai Leng took up the challenging task to undertake the conceptualization and execution of the website midway through the project from the first designer.
For Let's Take A Walk 2010, Wai Leng is the mastermind for the website where she worked closely with Mun Hin who helped with the forms and Dorothy who was in charge of the text.

“I enjoy seeing the excitement on the participants' faces during Let's Take A Walk. It's a warm feeling seeing strangers, friends and colleagues forming teams, senior citizens signing up to challenge themselves to raise funds for a good cause. It's a meaningful event and I'm happy that I am a part of it.”
